New Law Regarding Masking of Public Records

Governor Brown just approved a new law that will keep the records sealed for a longer period than before for tenants who are being evicted. Under the new law, the tenant will need to lose the case (have a judgment entered against him or her) in order for his or her name to appear on the public docket. Therefore, my overall advice to landlords to check and do a search of your prospective tenants’ names is even less effective.
